Florida nature festivals this fall

I wasn’t going to blog about fall nature festivals until later, but it really makes sense to now, so people can plan on going and have time to sign up.

Fall in Florida is a big time for nature festivals around the state. Here are the ones I know of:

St. Joseph Bay Buffer and Aquatic Preserves Day (that’s a mouthful!) is a day of field trips on the placid, clear St. Joseph Bay in the Port St. Joe/Cape San Blas area. Really beautiful!

Ding Darling Days is a week of events on Sanibel Island. I was invited to speak there last year, but it was only a month after I’d given birth and didn’t know if I could manage it. This year, it takes place Oct. 8-14.

The Florida Keys Birding and Wildlife Festival is next, Oct. 12-14. The center of the action is Curry Hammock State Park in Marathon (I saw a merlin here once), but field trips are all up and down the Keys.

Wouldn’t it be fun to take a couple weeks and go to all three festivals?!
